What We Don't Like
Supersize your dome tent, enough to take 8 adults with you on your next camping trip! Coleman is one of the most recognized brands in outdoor adventures because their quality is top notch, their designs are universal, and they’ll give you a wonderful night’s sleep each and every time.
Coleman Montana 8 Person Tent
Coleman has taken their regular 2 person or 4 person dome tents and magnified that size in this stunning Montana 8 Person Tent. It comes in three neutral colors – black, blue, or green, and it is definitely an upgrade from smaller spaced tents.
Who is this product for?
When you take a family along camping, this would be one of the greatest tents for them. The Coleman Montana 8 Person Tent has plenty of room. It’s excellent not just for families, but extra kids at a camp, festival goers, or even a single couple who wants lots of space for an extended vacation. This tent sleeps eight adults or two adults with up to five children.
This tent would not be for campers looking for a tent that you can completely walk around in without bending over. The style features multiple “roof” heights that limit the vertical space on each end. It’s also not for those who need to hike long distances from a vehicle, as it’s too heavy for backpacking.
What’s included?
This Coleman Montana 8 Person Tent comes with everything you need to get it set up at the campsite. It comes with the tent itself, a custom rainfly that fits over it, the poles, the stakes, guy lines, instructions for the setup, and a carrying bag for easy transport. Inside the tent are no extra luxuries like a gear holder.
You get just two small wall pockets, and there is a loop in the center top to hang a lantern. There is a small zipper where you can run an electrical cord out to blow up air mattresses or run a generator. You’re advised to use a tarp underneath this tent to help you stay cool and dry. You also might want to purchase sturdier stakes if camping in windy areas, and a seam sealer can always help to make it even more adverse to leaking.
Overview of features
This Coleman Montana 8 Person Tent is very substantial in size. It measures 16 feet wide, 7 feet deep, and has a 74” center height at the tallest. In weight, it’s about 22.3 pounds. You get 112 square feet of living space, which is more than enough to put a queen-sized mattress in each wing.
This tent is made of 68 denier polyester mesh, with a 75 denier polyester taffeta fly and 1000 denier polyethylene floor. It has a “bathtub” style floor, which means the sides come up to help prevent leaks from the ground. Welding-inspired technology strengthens the floor as well. The angled windows on each side are mesh with the rainfly off to let in air, and the top half of the half-moon door is also mesh. There is one door and no other larger openings.
The door has a heavy-duty zipper protected by a cuff made out of weather-resistant fabric. You can put poles inside the door to stiffen it and make it easier to swing out or swing shut. All seams on the tent are inverted as protection from the weather. You also get a custom rainfly, which not only fits over the top of the tent, but it creates a slight awning and sides over the door.
While this tent has great features, it could use much more ventilation. With the rain fly on, it doesn’t create a cross breeze between the windows and the door. A larger opening than just one door would also be useful, as would even more storage.
Tutorial
This is a complicated tent to set up and stake, so we advise you get the help of at least one other person. You’re advised to stake it down first while it’s lying flat on the ground. It comes with fiberglass poles that you can easily bend to fit in the pole sleeves around the tent. Please follow all instructions for assembly carefully.
